“We Are The World 25 For Haiti”, in which Jones and Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.

Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici.

The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti.

Corporate America Respond to Haiti Earthquake

After the divesting earthquake of magnitude 7.0 struck southwest of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, on Tuesday afternoon, devastating the city and leaving thousands dead. Another to help The Island of Haiti get back to a since of normality several conscious corporation has donate supplies or money to help Haiti relief efforts.

So on January 13, Corporation like Kellogg Company announced a $250,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist with earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The contribution is being made by Kellogg’s Corporate Citizenship Fund, the charitable arm of Kellogg Company. In addition, Kellogg will encourage employees and retirees to support relief efforts by providing a dollar-for-dollar match to the American Red Cross. Dr. Celeste Clark, senior vice president of corporate affairs, Kellogg Company was quoted saying “This disaster has devastated what is already one of the poorest countries in the world. The situation for the people of Haiti is dire, and we believe it is critical for us to provide support to relief efforts.”

Walmart operations around the world and the Walmart Foundation also announced a $500,000 monetary donation to Red Cross emergency relief efforts in Haiti. The company is also sending pre-packaged food kits valued at $100,000 to Haiti at the request of the Red Cross.

Doug McMillon, president and CEO, Walmart International say “At Walmart, helping communities is what we do every day around the world, especially in times of need,”

President of the Walmart Foundation Margaret McKenna said “Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by the devastation in Haiti, including the hundreds of thousands of Haitians who are our customers and our associates in the U.S. and abroad, and we will continue to monitor the situation and look for additional ways that we can assist in the relief efforts.”

Also the PepsiCo Foundation today announced it will donate $1 million to the earthquake victims in Haiti and also will provide Quaker products as well as bottled water and Gatorade for the disaster victims through its bottlers in Florida and the Dominican Republic.

Of the $1 million, the PepsiCo Foundation committed $500,000 for humanitarian relief to be allocated to three of its strategic partners, including the American Red Cross, Save the Children and Friends of the World Food Program.

The remaining $500,000 of the pledge will be used to support longer-term rebuilding efforts designed to strengthen Haiti’s infrastructure and limit significant damage from future disasters.

Other company such as Toys”R”Us Donate $150,000  to Save the Children. Dr. Charles F. MacCormack, President of Save the Children say “Save the Children is truly thankful for the support offered by the Toys”R”Us family to launch rapid relief for children and families who had so little even before this crisis”

Toys”R”Us employees are also responding to the crisis in Haiti by making individual donations to relief efforts, including to Save the Children. These donations will be eligible to be matched through the Toys”R”Us, Inc. Matching Gifts Program.

R&B singer Usher becomes the latest celebrity singer to call for help for Haiti thru his foundation http://www.ushersnewlook.org after the Caribbean island became divested by a 7.0 earthquake.

Usher Raymond IV Urges Youth Worldwide to Help Haiti and quoted saying

“I am devastated by the news in Haiti and am calling for youth worldwide to support and offer assistance to the three million people in that area that are in dire need.  I am currently working with Usher’s New Look, my non-profit organization, to figure out the most effective means of help.  I also know that young men and women have asked the same question- “How can I help?”

“With Haiti is in a state of emergency right now, young people do have the power to save lives. I am asking young people of all ages to mobilize initially by organizing local fundraisers with the proceeds going to their peers in Haiti.  This is one way we all can make a difference.”
